Keeping Kids Safe on The Internet

Right now I may come off sounding a bit like that "politically incorrect" parenting guy that never seemed to make it to air.

The safety of your kids on the internet is your responsibility. There's no shortcut, no government body who "should" do anything and even if there was an internet filter it wouldn't help. Trust me.

Help is at hand though. An published article by ITWire cites some research which in turn includes information on just what parents need to do.

If you've seen any of my previous correspondence on the subject you will have noticed that my suggestion of good old supervision (not Super Vision like Prince Planet has) is a strong theme in this article and in the reports advice.

We were all kids though. We know we found a way around the stuff our parents didn't want us to see and do. Your kids will too.

Sitting them in the room with you while they do it does, however, make it a bit harder for them to do and a lot easier for you to spot.

You probably don't even need to see where they are going on the internet. You probably just need to watch their faces and you can tell when they are up to something.

Maybe we've just discovered the new technology in parental control. Forget about scanning the web for bad stuff and filtering. Just write some software your kids guilt levels. Face recognition exists. We just have to modify it to recognise guilty faces.
