Brain melting Next G wireless internet

Telstra, the dreaded empire, a while back announced the doubling of the speeds of their Next G wireless network.

"Telstra has upgraded its Next G network to support speeds of up to 42 megabits per second (Mbps) in parts of Australia and has also released a new mobile broadband device to take advantage of the upgrade."

So you need new gear to take advantage of the speeds but here's what I am predicting...

It won't be too far off before, in my opinion, telco's start dropping old fashioned wired Internet (cable, DSL) in favour of everyone having wireless Internet on the Whatever G network.

If I was a Telstra ADSL or Cable guy I'd been skilling up on Wireless.

My thinking is that at these sorts of speeds and anticipated coverage the whole National Broadband Network in the form of a fibre or a cable is a moot point.

Why would anyone bother maintaining existing copper or fibre cables when all they need is a radio tower here and there? {But they are!?}

My prediction, soon we'll have no choice but to be on Whatever G Internet and our poor old landlines will...eventually...become a relic of a dark and slow past.

The best news is that we'll have something new to complain about. Just imagine all that lovely high speed Internet passing through your head in the form of electromagnetic radiation without permission.

Hey, if they get it right we might not even need a computer to tune-into the Internet.
